Day 6: Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle is really not a cloud of evasive dreams. It need not be about living a grand life, but it is in the little things we do, that count. It is important to feel good about yourself, taking special care for every bit of your mind and body.

How then do one maintain a healthy lifestyle while getting rid of bad lifestyle habits?

  • Eat Nutritious Foods
The World Health Organization recommends that you eat more plant-based foods, rather than animal-based foods. On the average, everyone needs to eat a variety of foods stuffed with nutrients in their right proportions. Foods such as whole grains, potatoes, fruits, rice and vegetables are highly recommended. You are also encouraged to drink a minimum of 1.5 liters of water daily for balanced metabolism.

  • Live a hygienic life
Right from the food preparation, to what we wear, how we groom our body parts and our environment, there has to be top-notch hygienic practices. The moment we let this slide; our health begins to down a slippery slope.

  • A Healthy Body Mass Index (BMI)
The WHO has once again recognized and recommended a BMI of 18.5-25 as normal. Hence, the need to watch what you eat, how you eat, presence of mind while you are at it, and the quality of your diet.

  • A Good Night’s Rest
There is no better way to let go of the day’s stress than a sufficient time to get a good sleep. Research has shown that sleep helps to put a balance on body functioning. If you are not getting enough sleeping, try to stay away from mind-bugging habits and keep your thoughts in one place. Once you can get rid of this habit, you begin to notice positive changes in your sleeping pattern.

  • Take Some Time Out
No matter how busy you are, find time to engage in extra-curricular activities. You could either spend some time with family, friends or just a ‘me-time’.

Remember, it’s all about you. A healthy lifestyle is a great boost for mental health and self-esteem. Always do this while maintaining a positive attitude. Everything else will fall into place.
